I am a compassionate woman who has journeyed through my own challenging experiences in this life so far. Some of those experiences include health issues, relationship and parenting challenges, as well as financial stressors. I have also had some very rewarding experiences, like becoming a mother, growing foundational relationships with friends and family, having the ability to volunteer with important organizations and, most recently, starting a new career at mid-life. All of these experiences, whether joyful or challenging, have each afforded me unique opportunities for personal growth, new perspectives and useful skills that continue to assist me in helping others. I have gained so many valuable life lessons for which I am filled with gratitude. With these lessons learned, as well as my training as a Counselling Therapist, I aspire to help those who may be struggling with their own journey, as they walk their unique path in this life.
I use an integrative, person-centered, and trauma informed approach, with my main therapeutic lens being from an existential-humanistic perspective. Existential therapy, like many others theories, believes that we are all capable of change and growth, that we are the architects of our own lives, not merely passive participants. My personal belief, which aligns with this theory, is that we are all capable of change, yet our life experiences to this point have impacted our sense of safety and security, and thus are contributing to our challenges. Therefore, my therapeutic aim is to hold a safe space for you, while we unpack your experiences, and work to heal some potential past wounds. Through our work together we can move you toward your goals, which by extension, help lead you to a more meaningful, fulfilling and authentic life.
My practice focuses on helping clients whose emotional and mental wellbeing are being affected by past trauma or toxic experiences which are potentially now being brought to light by recent difficult transitions in their lives. An example of such transitions could be an illness, which might include chronic illness or pain, disability, and/or a terminal illness. Other transitions could be an ending or beginning of a significant relationship, beginning or ending of education programs or careers. Change and transitions are often stressful, can feel scary and may even trigger past difficult experiences. In our counselling sessions together, I provide a safe space for us to be able to address and understand your feelings, emotions, and experiences and look at how they may be impacting your personal goals. While empathically exploring your concerns together, we will work toward identifying your aspirations, collaborate on specific goals, and develop strategies that best suit your needs, to help propel you into your deserved authentic life.
My passion is to help you to:
